Paediatric first aid and Millies Mark

Paediatric first aid and Millies Mark

We are very proud of all our staff team at both of our nurseries for being awarded the accreditation of Millie’s Mark.

Millie’s Mark is the gold standard in paediatric first aid.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidelines, which childcare settings in England are required to follow, currently state that just one person with a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present or on outings. (DfE 2017, page 22)

Millie’s Mark is awarded as a special endorsement to childcare providers that go above and beyond these minimum requirements by having 100% of staff trained in paediatric first aid, and also ensuring that everything learned during the course is kept alive and in the forefront of practitioners’ minds so that they are confident, ready and capable.
When the setting gains the Millie’s Mark accreditation, they provide reassurance for parents that all childcare practitioners know what to do in a paediatric first aid situation.
It acknowledges that children’s safety is at the forefront of the nursery’s mind.

We have always ensured that all of our staff have been paediatric first aid trained but this award shows that we now go above and beyond what is legally required for the benefit of our children, staff and visitors.
The award is valid for 3 years but during that time we will have to ensure that all staff remain qualified and that all Millie’s Mark standards remain met as we may have unannounced inspections off them.
